Founded in 2001 by developmental-behavioral pediatricians Drs. Barbara Howard and Raymond Sturner, CHADIS, Inc. (formerly Total Child Health, Inc.) was created to make every pediatric visit more complete—bringing patient input, evidence, and guideline-based clinical decision support, and meaningful follow-up into the moment of care. Today, CHADIS is the sole distributor of the CHADIS platform and works in close partnership with the nonprofit Center for Promotion of Child Development through Primary Care, which conducts research and advances innovative, digital approaches to help primary care clinicians identify, treat, and prevent mental, behavioral, and developmental concerns while promoting positive development and strengths in children and families. Together, the organizations focus on enhancing routine and specialized well-child visits, advancing physician training, and pioneering innovative “moment-of-care” clinical decision support. This collaboration brings together the Center’s expertise in research, theory, and early-stage development with CHADIS, Inc.’s focus on technology, commercialization, and business operations—helping transform innovative ideas into practical tools now used by thousands of clinicians and practices.

CHADIS, Inc. focuses on the development and distribution of a web-based platform called CHADIS — the Comprehensive Health and Decision Information System. While CHADIS, Inc. provides technology-based tools and services to clinicians, the Center has provided much of the research-based findings that constitute the backbone of the technology.

CHADIS, Inc. has been a recipient of thirteen NIH and CDC Small Business Innovation Research awards. Together with the Center, CHADIS has received $27 million in federal and foundation grants for research and development of the current system.

The true driver of the company's success — and the continued development of its products and services — is the desire for the clinicians and families using the system to improve the health of both children and adults.

Dr. Barbara Howard

Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine

Dr. Barbara Howard is a developmental-behavioral pediatrician who trained with Dr. T. Berry Brazelton at Harvard University. She is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and former Co-Director of the fellowship program, a national speaker on child behavior problems, and past President of the Society for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics. She was a contributing author for Bright Futures™, Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Primary Care (DSM-PC), and Bright Futures in Practice: Mental Health, and has served on national committees of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Raymond Sturner

Co-founder and Director of Non-Profit Affiliated Organization

Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Emeritus, The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine

Dr. Raymond Sturner is a developmental-behavioral pediatrician trained at Yale University and former Director of the Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics Fellowship Training Program at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and of the Child Development Unit at Duke University. He is principal investigator on 150+ research grant years and recipient of the 2022 AAP SOAT Technology Innovation Award for Smart Care Pathways, and he continues to lead research and development involving CHADIS, focused on innovation in the clinical process of regular child health check-ups.
